Department of Forest Product Technology (DFPT) is one of the academic administrators at Faculty of Forestry Gadjah Mada University, which was held on 1963. DFPT wants to contribute to the sustainable management and utilization of tropical forests, for instance DFPT has been contributing to socialize the efficiency of wood utilization as a raw material; increasing the quality of wood products; creating innovation of wood products with latest processes technology and local wisdom; and also generating high competent graduates to overcome the circumstances of wood utilization and wood industries.
Teaching / discussion activities in the classroom and practice in the laboratory
DFPT was born with the open of Forestry Technology Studies (FTS) at Faculty of Agriculture in 1951/1952. And then, According to the decree of the Minister of Education and Science on 24 August 1963, Faculty of Agriculture split into two parts, which were Faculty of Agriculture and FTS joining and becoming as a part of Faculty of Forestry. The first head of FTS was Prof. Soenardi Prawirohatmodjo, and Officially FTS became to Department of Forest Product Technology (DFPT) on 8 December 1983 according to the decree of The Minister of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia No. 0553/O/1983. Based on the decree of the general director of colleges Department of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia No. 221/DIKTI/Kep/1996 on 11 July 1996 about undergraduate program at Gadjah Mada (GMU) University, Faculty of Forestry had four programs of bachelor degree, and one of them was Forest Product Technology Program (FPTP), which was administrated by DFPT. At that time, the student capacity of FPTP was approximately 40 students per annum. In 2010, FPTP merged with other program studies at Faculty of Forestry (based on the decree of GMU Rector No. 89/P/SK/HT/2010); and has become Forestry Science Program (FSP). Therefore FPTP has become major field of Forest Product Technology. The latest statuses of accreditation from the National Accreditation Board are A for undergraduate program/S1 (2014), master degree/S2 (2015), and doctoral degree/ S-3 (2017). International certification from the ASEAN University Network (AUN) in 2016 was achieved for undergraduate program and from Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik e. V.( ASIIN) in 2019 for master program.
The core administrators of DFPT consist of the head of DFPT and the secretary of DFPT, which are elected every 5 years. Under the core administrators, there are head of laboratories and members that consist of educational staff and non-educational staff or laboratory technicians. DFTP has 19 educational staff, which consists of 18 permanent educational staff and 1 honorary educational staff with the academic classification as follows: 16 educational staff are doctoral degree including 4 professors inside, 3 educational staff are master degree. In addition, there are 8 technicians spreading in 3 laboratories.
