On Friday, June 21, 2024, a team of lecturers and staff from the Department of Forest Product Technology, Faculty of Forestry, UGM, set out to Playen, Gunung Kidul, to conduct a survey for a community service activity to be held in the Gunung Kidul and Wanagama areas. The team included Dr. Rini Pujiarti, Head of the Department of Forest Product Technology, Dr. Johanes Pramana Gentur Sutapa, chair of the 2023 community service activity, Prof. Ragil Widyorini, chair of the 2024 community service activity, Dr. Tomy Listyanto, Dr. Hairi Cipta, Dr. Riska Dwiyanna, Dr. Siti Hanifah Mahdiyanti, Greitta Kusuma Dewi, M.Sc, and staff member Hening Tiyas Pratiwi, S.E.
The team visited the Playen Sub-district Office to coordinate the implementation of the community service in Wanagama. During this visit, the Playen Sub-district Office explained that young entrepreneurs involved in forest products had been accommodated to receive guidance in line with the 2024 community service theme, which focuses on advanced forest waste management through digital marketing.

Subsequently, the team continued their journey to coordinate with the Gunung Kidul District Environmental Office. This meeting led to an engaging discussion about waste management in Gunung Kidul District, which has been striving to manage waste independently through the establishment of integrated waste processing sites in dozens of villages, creating crafts from recycled waste, and educating the community about waste banks. It is hoped that the meetings during this survey will result in good cooperation and collaboration from various parties for the smooth implementation of the Department of Forest Product Technology’s community service activities in 2024.
